Press release regarding August 2, the day of the genocide against Roma

On the occasion of August 2, the day of the genocide against Roma, the president of the World Roma Organization and the Ambassador of Peace, Jovan Damjanovic, said:

"Unlike other mass deaths in the 20th century, what happened to Roma in Europe during the Second World War has not yet found a unique name. This fact is enough to illustrate the very foggy picture that we have today about the mass and systematic killing of Roma.

In the mid-nineties of the last century, the extermination of Roma was first named.
Roma linguist and activist Ian Henkok introduced the word Porajmos (destruction) to denote the national socialist politics of extermination of Roma and Sinti in the Second World War.

In Serbia, the term Porajmos is almost not used for the massive suffering of Roma and Sinti in the Second World War, but it is only mentioned sometimes.

2. August is taken as the day of genocide against the Roma, when Gestapo commander Heinrich Himmler ordered that all Roma from the Third Reich be deported to the death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

The gas chambers, persecutions, executions without evidence, prisons, ghettos, banned zones and experimental scalpels of doctors from Auschwitz, Dachau and Buchenwald and other torture chambers have killed the lives of 3,500,000 Roma.

In one word, the Roma passed through Dante's circle of hell from Vitos via Jasi to Auschwitz and Jasenovac.

The exact number of executed Roma and Cynthia is not known, because living on the margins of European societies, they did not even enter official statistics. It is assumed that the number of their victims is greater than 3.5 million.

On May 16, 1944 In the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, there were rioting of Roma detainees.
Seventeen months before May 16, Auschwitz-Birkenau, a
family camp was formed so-called "Gypsy Camp", where Roma and Sinti are interned from all over Europe.
When camp detainees learned that their elimination was planned, they rebelled.
Unfortunately, inmates managed to postpone inevitably only a few months.
In the night between August 2nd and 3rd of that year, "a Gypsy camp was liquidated" and about 2900 women, children, the elderly and ill Roma and Sinta were first suppressed in the gas chambers that night and then burnt.
On the occasion of Remembrance on the Day of Resistance on behalf of the World Roma Organization and my personal name, I want to express my condolences to all the victims of the Roma and other detainees in camps.

With regard to the new geopolitical divisions in the world, it has been highlighted as an important segment to always keep a dialogue on the prevention of all problems that can ruin peace,  and solve all problems at the negotiating table.

World Roma Organization | Press release | International Roma Conference in Sofia, Bulgar

Press release

On the occasion of the International Roma Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, 29-30.11.2016.

At the two-day International Roma Conference held in Sofia, Bulgaria, organized by the World Roma Organization Rromanipen, was chaired by the President of the World Roma Organization, Jovan Damjanovic, and Petko Asenov, Commissioner for Roma Affairs in Bulgaria. It should also be noted that a large number of people from the public, political and social life of Bulgaria took part in the conference. The theme of the conference was the development and integration of Roma in Bulgaria. The President of the World Roma Organization, firstly welcomed and informed guests about the goals and tasks of the World Roma Organization, and stressed that the organization through its preventive dialogues led to the prevention and stopping of the escalation of the problems in Bulgaria.
This time, Damjanovic emphasized that today is one of the biggest problems in Bulgaria, the problem of demolition of Roma settlements, and suggested concrete measures, given that the state of Bulgaria is a member of the EU and that through various types of donations, and above all to structural funds, make this problem is solved
.
Bulgaria and the Roma have for centuries been in good interpersonal relations and the states have always had an understanding of the economic, social, cultural and housing problems of the Roma.
Also, Damjanovic stressed that if the urban program envisages construction of certain objects of state interest in Bulgaria, the Roma will be dislocated from that location, but to a new location with a prominent infrastructure or a built-up space that would be allocated to the Roma.
The Roma Affairs Commissioner in Bulgaria, Petko Asenov, thanked the President of the World Roma Organization and the participants in the public-political and cultural life of Bulgaria, and said that the Bulgarian state had met with the problems of the Roma so far, but it has always demanded that every problem be resolved in the best way. Which believes that the Roma are loyal citizens of the Bulgarian state, but Bulgaria and other transition countries are still insufficiently wealthy to solve every problem, including this problem, which is quite large, as the dislocation of the Roma settlement.
"I believe that in the near future the state of Bulgaria through its funds and structural funds will solve the problem of dislocation of Roma settlements on to mutual satisfaction," said Asenov

On behalf of the World Roma Organization, Damjanovic awarded the Golden Plaque to Mr. Miltcho Lambrev, the Director General of the National Railway. The prize went to the aforementioned person because he best solved the problem of employment of Roma in Bulgaria by hiring 2,000 Roma in the National Railways. Director Lambrev promised to the President of the World Roma Organization that he will grant scholarships to 10 Roma students who will be employed in the Bulgarian National Railways Administration after completing their studies.

Also, the President of the World Roma Organization was guest on Bulgarian state television and on the question of journalists whether the Roma are connected with terrorists who have come to large numbers in Bulgaria who want to get themselves flooded in roman mosques and destabilize the state of Bulgaria, Damjanovic categorically claims that the Roma have never been a destabilizing factor in any country, and neither in Bulgaria nor are they ever going to be. There are a number of terrorists who want to abuse the Roma because they know that the Roma are a great social category, but Roma have refused to cooperate and contact with terrorists.
In the end, Danmjanovic emphasized that the Roma have so far resolved their problems through the institutions of the system through dialogue with certain line ministries of the state and local self-government and dismissed every form of violent problem resolution. The president of the WRO appealed to the state of Bulgaria, since the Roma have the same obligations and do not have the same rights that the state , to have more hearing and understanding because it is a member of the EU and because it has signed all important human rights conventions and declarations.

Problem of electricity in Roma neighborhood Red Star

On November 21, 2011, in Nis, the President of the World Roma Organization Rromanipen, Jovan Damjanovic, with members of the organization, Muja Alijevic and Sasa Denic, visited the Mayor of Nisava district Aleksandar Cvetkovic. The main topic of the discussion was the problem of electricity in the Roma neighborhood of Red Star. The President informed the Mayor of the problems that have been going on for a long time and asked him to find a solution to the problem of electricity supply in the Niš Roma settlement as soon as possible. The president explained the significance of the Roma community in history where the Roma gave great sacrifices for the formation of Yugoslavia and Serbia and that they would remain and remain permanently patriotic in their place as an integral part of this country. Rationality and dignity require us not to allow the escalation of electricity supply problems and how to avoid the internationalization of the problem, we are here to work together through the institutions of our state to solve this problem as a very difficult problem, said the president of the World Roma Organization.
The State of Serbia is a signatory of the Decade of Roma as well as the Roma Inclusion, which obligates the city and state institutions to equally contribute when asked about education, housing, social affairs and health. The EU allocates a lot of funds for the implementation of all basic living areas, and regardless of these donations, the state has a duty towards its citizens, and it is not  human that children, old and sick people are held in that village without electricity for such a long time.
The president pointed out to the chief that there could be a major epidemic that would cover the entire city and this would cause a catastrophe.

On the occasion of the mentioned problem of President Damjanovic, Mayor Aleksandar Cvetkovic said that he would do everything in his power and competencies, in order to find a joint solution with the city and institutions about the inclusion of electricity in the Roma settlement of Red Star in Nis.

Respond of  the World Roma Organization Rromanipen

On the interview of Vitomir Mihajlovic, president of the National Council of the Roma National Minority, for the Espresso portal, on November 14, 2016.

It's very embarrassing and dishonorable toward your people to talk about them inconsistently and inhumanly, that it's not a fortune to have 10 children!
Who are you, Vitomir Mihajlovic, to evaluate and talk about how many children should they have? The great writer Ljubivoje Ršumović said, I quote: "It is not rich who has oxen but daughters and sons"!
This is not a state that castrates Roma women and forbids birth, this is a democratic and legal state, and for this statement the same state should condemn you.

You are a criminal and a thief, and now you have proven to be an immoral and inhumane man!

Be ashamed of Vitomir Mihajlovic!

I think that you are aware that in the state of Serbia there is a white plague and that everyone is advocating for an increase in birth rate, and that the Roma are equal citizens of this country, but you degrade and degrade them with your statement.
The latest EU report on Serbia states that it is necessary to deal with organized crime. First they need to start with you and the National Council of the Roma National Minority that you have turned into just your little private company and from whom you have benefited only you, your family and your closest associates. You should first be brought to justice for organized crime.
You say that Roma children are starving - so whether the National Council of Roma people does not pay a huge sum of money every month to find solutions for the Roma people and improve their life in Serbia? Why did not you apply for some EU funds with projects and help make Roma children not starve and be as numerous as possible, to get educated, to work, and to open up their businesses.
Some members of the National Council of the Roma National Minority have been trying to point out all your malversations with money, blocking accounts, buying apartments for a long time ...
We believe that the state of Serbia is legal and fair and that it will finally prosecute all criminals and those who have damaged the Roma people and the state of Serbia from the National Council of the Roma National Minority.
In the latest EU report, the Serbian government received positive assessments in certain areas, we hope that due to the EU's criticisms of organized crime in Serbia, the Government will take the right attitude and stand on the path of organized crime in the National Council of the Roma National Minority.

Reaction to the construction of a wall in Krusevac

The Roma organization Roma Rromanipen believes that Roma should live in urban areas like all other people in the world, and there is no reason to build walls because the Roma community is part of this country. The Berlin Wall has been demolished and now the wall in Krusevac is under construction, under the excuse of sound insulation, just in the Roma settlement. It is known exactly where sound insulation of this type is set. We appeal to the Mayor of Krusevac to remove these unfavorable walls in the Roma settlement, because these walls do not reflect the democratic order Serbia is trying to achieve.

Problem with electricity in Roma settlement  Red Star

The Roma organization Roma Rromanipen is very worried about the current situation in Niš, and about the Roma settlement of Red Star, whose inhabitants have been living in the dark for two and a half months because their electricity has been turned off.
It has already been announced that a humanitarian disaster is threatening them because there is no indication that they will soon get electricity. The most aggravated are children and elderly people who do not have the ability to bath, maintain personal hygiene and wear clean clothes like everyone else in Serbia. These are inhumane, inhuman and unhygienic conditions for the lives of any man and child in the world.
The World Roma Organization prays and appeals to the authorities of the city of Niš and Nisava district to find a way and help Roma residents of Nis who are in more than 600 in endangered living conditions in the Red Star neighborhood, and President of the World Roma Organization Mr. Jovan Damjanovic will visit the following days
vulnerable Roma and ask for the urgent remediation of this humanitarian catastrophe in the announcement by state authorities and an meeting with the Minister of Mines and Energy Aleksandar Antic.
